More of Aiden

We had a great day today!  Aiden is healthy and strong.  He's eating well and sleeping a ton.  We had some visitors today, and always enjoy time with our precious friends and family.  David had a great time at his sleepover with the Goodfellows and is so proud to be a big brother.  He can't stop smiling when he sees his little brother.  Grandma Taylor and Grandma Van have been spending time with us and are holding down the house and pets while we're at the hospital.  Our hearts are full tonight and we are so thankful for all that God has done for us.  We do not deserve it, but we can choose to be thankful and obedient to his plan for our lives.  Goodnight to all!

Wow, That Happened Fast!

Wow, where to begin! I thought that I would use the blog to give some good play-by-play of labor and delivery. Obviously that didn't happen.'s the recap.

At 5:30 pm Jenny felt a large sharp pain and let out a scream. She thought it was just a swift kick from Mr Aiden, but she soon realized her that her water had broken. The contractions shortly came fast and furious. Moving in between contractions, we finally made it to the van and into the ER. I will have to tell you about the checkin process later, but it wasn't timely and it included a mugshot of Jenny.

We got Jenny into a delivery room and I don't really think the nurses completely understood the situation. Jenny was in a lot of pain. We had told the nurses she was at 2cm a couple hours previous. When they checked she was already at 7cm! At that point they got the picture.

The nurses did a blood draw and started some antibiodics. We asked for the epidural ASAP, and were hopeful that the doc would be there soon. They gave Jenny some Statol for the pain.

The next thing I knew...Jenny had to push. I ran out to find the doctor and everyone started to flow into the room. She never got the epidural, and after about 30 mins of good pushing, Aiden arrived at 7:45pm.

Jenny did amazing! I am so proud of her. David also got to see his new brother shortly after delivery. He is bursting with pride.

Aiden is a solid little man. He is 9lbs 4 oz and 22 in long. We are so blessed. Thank you so much to all our family and friends for the continous prayer and support. We are truly thankful tonight.

Aiden's Coming Soon

Well, here is my first mobile blog update. Jenny had an ultrasound this morning and then a checkup with a doctor a little bit ago. Aiden looked great on the ultrasound and he is still active, strong, and has plenty of fluid around him. He is going to give David a run for his money though, because they think he is around 9 pounds.

We thought we were going to end up at the hospital this morning. Jenny started having pretty strong contractions around 0300. She showered and got ready in preparation but they subsided a little. She is still having contractions, some pretty painful, but not regular yet.

Jenny is at about 2 cm right now. If she doesn't go into labor tonight, she will be induced tomorrow morning. We have to call the hospital at 0500 and make sure there is bed space.

We are so blessed! And we are all so excited! David can't wait to be a big brother. Please pray for a smooth delivery and that Aiden will not give his mommy any problems on the way out.

Our Weekend

David continues to be super silly. On Thursday he said he was cold while he was slowing eating his dinner, so he wrapped his blankey around his head and made Jim and I laugh for an hour and a half (because that is how long it took him to finish eating).

David loves broccoli

Friday was school project day. David really wanted to make a clock and learn how to tell time. That is a pretty hard complete concept for a 4 year old, so we settled for the "o-clocks" We had so much fun coloring our template, numbers,  and arrows. We then laminated it because I LOVE laminating things and then we found a brad to make the hands movable. David is so proud of his clock. He keeps it on his bulletin board in his room and adjusts the time throughout the day. We also had our weekly HIStory lesson from The Mystery of History Volume 1 (WE LOVE IT). David is working on his Creation book and it is so fun because he wants to write all the words himself. I will have to take a picture of that when we complete it.

Today we are just sitting around waiting for Aiden to come. David finished up his lunch and is watching a GeoTracks movie, then I happened to turn my head and look at him and this is what I found. (see below)

He had pulled this chair out of his room and set up all 3 of his Nerf guns and dumped all of his bullets into that little white basket and was shooting them into the living room behind me. You can't see it in the picture, but he is wearing a "CIA" pin/badge that Mike Payne gave he last night because David said he was "fighting the bad guys"
Now we are of for another walk/bike ride before it starts to rain. David loves riding his bike and I just need an excuse to go walking...come out Aiden come out!

Aiden's Baby Shower

On January 9th, our church gave us a wonderful baby shower for our little Aiden. The food & fellowship were amazing and we were overwhelmed with so many gifts. THANK YOU everyone for thinking of our family. We got tons of diapers & wipes which will be a great help as I try to learn how to use the cloth diapers I bought months ago. David was very helpful in opening all the gifts and just watching him was entertainment enough for us all. Thank you especially to the Jenkins family who took all the wonderful and hilarious pictures! And thank you Michelle for the beautiful and always delicious cake!
Thank you Pleasant Acres family!
Aiden's cake-super yum

I *heart* food

Overwhelmed with gifts

Big Brother ready for the party, or to BE the party I should say

Rosa was a great drink lady :)

This picture of Mike & Lily Kate is great!

I see you taking my picture David Jenkins!

(2) plates: one for me & one for Aiden :) Just kidding, one was for David

Prego & happy

Adorable outfits from our dear friends the Manns

This begins the hilarious pictures of David, what is he doing? I do not know

David even received a gift: Color Wonder from the Pounders, thank you!

LOVE David's face! "DIAPERS!"

and again, "huh??" "These are wipes D"

and time for his solo?!?!

Showing off his muscles as Jim and I both cringe haha :)

Not sure whose face is funnier, mine or Lily Kate's. David was trying to show his muscles again and in the process I thought for sure the box was going to end up on Lily Kate's head. It didn't, no worries :)

And of course what is a party without "Chubby Bunny" with grapes.

Thank you again to everyone! We love you all!

Last Wednesday after my Dr appt David and I met up with our friends Becky and her kiddos Makayla & Carter. We decided to head to Jacksonville for lunch at Chuck E Cheese and then do some shopping at Babies R Us. David, Makayla & Carter had a BLAST and Becky & I did as well; catching up and watching the kids have fun.

David & Makayla especially liked playing each other in air hockey. They were so cute!
I think they both beat the other at least once.

David with his big "guns" throwing the football for lots and lots of tickets

This game was another favorite as well as basketball, but I didn't get a picture of that one.

This Wednesday, today, I had my 40 week OB appt and much to my dismay Aiden still shows no signs of coming into this world. Last week I was told that I was 1-2 cm dilated, but this week that was changed to no dilation at all. I did see two different Drs, but still not very promising for going into labor anytime soon. Dr. didn't want to induce me because he said that because I'm starting from nothing basically that I have a higher chance on ending up with a C-Section. I don't want that, nor did I really want to be induced. I just was hoping that I had SOME progress with dilating. My next appt is next Tuesday. We are going to have an ultrasound done to check on the size of Aiden and also make sure that he is ok and that there aren't any other reasons why perhaps labor isn't happening. Then based upon that ultrasound, the Drs will decide what to do-whether inducing is the best option at that point, especially since I'll practically be 41 weeks. We will see...
So anyway, needless to say I was not really in the greatest of moods today, but I was trying to see and remember that God's ways are higher than mine, even when I don't understand...after I picked David up we came home and had lunch, then the yucky rain clouds broke up (literally & figuratively)  and we decided to take a walk in the sunshine. I think it did us both (and the dogs) good. David even rode his bike the entire walk, I was so proud of him. He was grinning ear to ear the whole time, it was precious. I was just soaking up the precious time I have with just him, my first son and I AM thankful for that.

Big boy posing for some serious bike riding time

How many times has God used my son to remind me that there is SO much to be thankful for? More than I can even count. Plus wasn't it just a few posts ago that I was reminding myself that in whatever state I am to be content? Oh yeah, here I go again...sorry Lord, please help me as I try again...

Thanks for all your prayers regarding this pregnancy, even from months and months ago. I will try to make sure we keep you updated and please continue to pray as we move forward and patiently wait for Aiden to be born, healthy & safe in God's timing...

Chicken 'N Dumplings

This was absolutely delicious so we just HAD to share.

Chicken 'N Dumplings  Makes about (4) servings

2 quarts water
3 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
1 tsp salt
1/2 sweet onion, chopped in large pieces
1 stalk of celery, chopped in large pieces
1 large clove of garlic, minced
1/2 tsp basil
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 TB lemonade (it worked great because I didn't have lemon juice)

Add all ingredients together in a stock pot and bring to a boil. Boil uncovered for at least (1) hour. (Your house will begin to smell absolutely wonderful!)

Strain everything out of the stock. Chop the chicken into bite sized pieces. Toss the veggies away. Set chicken aside while you make the dumpling dough.
2 cups Bisquick
2/3 cup milk

Return the stock into the pot and simmer on medium heat. Drop dumplings (about 1 inch dollops) into the simmering stock. Stir frequently, but gently so you don't break them apart as they cook. Cook about 20 minutes or until no longer doughy and stock thickens into a gravy.

Add the chicken chunks and fold into the dumplings and gravy.

Serve & Enjoy!!

Reasons why Aiden "CAN NOT" be Born Today

Reason #1: I have come down with a icky, yucky, sinus type cold infection. Going into labor feeling like this would not be very fun

Reason #2: It is snowing again in NC. Though I am excited about this because Jim has been sent home early from base, flights are being cancelled so Grandma Van & Gramma Taylor wouldn't be able to get here in time.

Reason #3: David is also sick, so he wouldn't be able to see his baby brother

Reason #4: I can't make my last shopping trip to Babies R Us in Jacksonville because of the weather

Reason #5: I need to clean my house, AGAIN....but instead I am blogging, checking out pictures of friends' kids playing in the snow on facebook, working on our Preschool Curriculum, and feeling sleepy like perhaps a nap is in my near future...

Stay snuggly little guy :)

Big Brother & Little Brother T-shirts

Well, since I have time I finally figured maybe I should do some of the things I had wanted to do before Aiden was born and today I created some homemade shirts for the boys to wear when we all come home from the hospital as a family. I think they turned out super cute considering the difficulty I had with Word, but thank God it worked out.

The shadows aren't flattering, but at least you can see basically how they turned out. :)

This picture of David was before the new year, after a day of playing outside and preschool.

(He sleeps like his Daddy)

38 weeks...and then we were down to 2

Today I had my 38 week appointment and once again I measured exactly 38 weeks. All signs point towards an "on time" baby, but all is still in the Lord's hands so we'll see what His plan is. Honestly today I was a bit bummed, but God has really been working on my heart all afternoon and evening and I am finding peace and contentment is HIS perfect plan, not my "preferred" plan. Though I continue to have lots of Braxton Hicks contractions, I have not dilated at all and Aiden seems to be pretty comfy within the womb, at least for now. I did not dilate much when I went into labor with David, my water broke the night of my due date with him and I had to be put on pitocin for progress sake.He was born 40 weeks and 1 day, so whose to say that Aiden won't be the same. A very healthy 8+ lb baby :) That's all I could possibly want anyway.
I was informed today that I tested positive for Strep B which like anything "out of the usual" I was a bit taken aback at first, but I know that this is a common thing for pregnant Mamas and there are plenty of plans to be sure that during deliver little man is completely taken care of so he won't get sick. I will be put on antibiotics when I go into labor and he should be totally healthy when he does come out to meet us.

David had quite the day with his buddies all day and didn't come home until Jim picked him up on his way home from work at 7pm! (Yes Jim worked very late today!!) So while I had the house all to myself after my appt I did a whole bunch of random things around the house that have been pushed aside by my own laziness or procrastination, so it felt great to check a bunch of those off. I also suppose every little or big thing I "complete" at home will continue to make me feel more and more "ready" for Aiden's upcoming birth, so once again, what do I have to complain about? Absolutely nothing!

Thank YOU Lord for showing me that once again, YOUR ways are higher than my ways, and YOUR thoughts are higher than my thoughts...

Friedlein Family Months in Review Part 2

This Christmas season was a very wonderful one for us. We were thrilled to be back in New Bern, being a part of our church cantata, and waking up Christmas morning in our home, then going to bed and waking up the next day to SNOW! We had Jim's parents at our house for Christmas and they were able to see all of the excitement of a 4 year old Christmas morning. We truly have been enjoying our time together as a family as we wrapped up the year 2010. Many blessings to you and yours as we begin 2011!
Coming to a Christmas card near you.

David is back in the Booster Band at PA and truly is developing a love for godly music and we couldn't be prouder

Jim's Squadron Christmas party was really fun this year too. We don't celebrate Santa Claus in our family, but we have tried to explain to David  the historical idea of the man we now call "Santa" At the party we had "Gunny Claus" who was really really cool and he just so happend to be giving out gifts to the kids too :) Here Daddy & David are waiting in line to see him.

Our growing family

Look at that sweet face

This was the first time David ever sat on any Santa's lap, and he was actually very excited to see a Marine Corps Santa. I love the look he is giving him here.

Oh look a Christmas present just for you

It's Spencer!

This year we were blessed once again to receive a free Christmas tree from Trees For Troops. We LOVE fresh trees! One evening we finally were able to decorate it. David loves to help and gets the honor of placing the star on top.

TA DA our decorated Christmas tree.

Christmas Eve Day we made all kinds of cookies. It was perfect timing with our sugar cookies because our friends the Yeras stopped by on their way back to VA and all the kids were able to decorate and EAT their own batch. David insisted on decorating his while dressed as a Marine (no surprise there)

The snow we got the next day and a half was amazing! We've never experienced this much here in NC before. Now last year in VA we got the most we had EVER seen, but this was still great for playing in the backyard for hours. Bailey our German Shepherd LOVED it too and pranced around like she was a little puppy.

Snow Angels

What is snow without a snowball fight?

Hilarious watching David come down the slide.

Eating snow is a must too.

So much fun!

I even snuck out for a little bit, but I can't zip or button up my coat anymore (thanks Aiden) so I couldn't stay in the cold for too long.

David and Sam were buddies while we were in the Christmas Cantata at church.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
