It's Raining Cats & Dogs!!

It has been raining pretty much for 3 days straight! I don't think it has really rained at all since we moved here 3 1/2 weeks ago, but now we are definitely making up for it! Monday was when it first started and David was just dying to use his rain boots that Mrs Becky bought him over a year ago (which are still a little big as he clops around in them :) ) He had a blast running, slipping, sliding, falling, floating, and getting soaked in the rain. We took a really long and HILARIOUS video of him, but we are still having trouble uploading videos (any suggestions anybody??)
Today, Wednesday it is STILL raining. I took a few pictures of what our backyard looked like when it started raining heavily again and then what it looks like a few short hours later...craziness. The hole that David enjoyed running through Monday is now completely covered by the water. I think it is about time we start building that ark!
All suited up for some fun in the rain

Soaked all the way through!

This was at about 8:30 this morning
and this was about 12 this afternoon, and it is still pouring out there! Thank God our house is higher and our yard slops down.

What else is one to do on a rainy day, but play with a rubber snake. David thought it was hilarious to throw it up in the air and watch it get stuck on our ceiling upstairs in our bonus room. Well, that is all fine and dandy up there because the ceilings slope so that I can reach. When we came down stairs the game continued, unfortunately for David & Mr Snake, the ceilings down here are MUCH higher and when he got stuck, he was stuck. I tried scrapping it off with the swiffer, but all it did was cause popcorn ceiling pieces to fall on my clean floor, so Mr Snake is still there and is waiting for Daddy to come home from work to get him down, now it's on to other games, like bowling down the hallway.STEEEEEERIIIIKE!

Pizza with Grandpa

After church Sunday night we took Grandpa out to our favorite pizza place here in New Bern- 37th Street Pizzeria. They really do have the best pizza! Grandpa got David his very own personal sized cheese pizza, wow what a lucky boy!

Thank you Grandpa for the pizza and the fun time visiting while you were here in NC!

Mickey's Birthday Party at Pump It Up

Saturday David & I headed to Pump It Up, a huge bouncey house place for kids AND adults, for David's friend, Mickey's 4th Birthday party. David had been here once before the last time we lived here in New Bern, but I knew he was going to have way more fun this time, since I was pretty sure he'd do more than just ride around in the cozy coop cars. First thing David went down the ceiling high slide. I know he was excited, but I think he didn't realize how fast he'd be moving. The first picture says it all. He had a great time overall and we look forward to bringing Daddy back there so that the two of them can have fun together.
 Super duper slidin'
 Racing through the obstacle course
Posing for a picture with Mickey the birthday boy
Getting ready for the group photo shot

David really wanted a picture with Mickey in the huge blown-up birthday kid chair. He was ALL smiles, with black frosting teeth and everything. He was so excited that he didn't even realize that he was sitting right in front of Mickey. :)

David's 4th Birthday Party Prep

It is official! (I hope). David has chosen a Dinosaur theme for his 4th birthday party. We have gone from Spiderman (where this came from, I do not know), to Toy Story and then back to Spiderman. Up until TODAY I thought we were going to be stuck with a Spiderman party, but then this morning I asked David one more time and he said, "A Dinosaur Party!" I asked him a few times over again if he was sure and he said, "yes, yes" and so as far as I am concerned, it is decided! I am actually really excited about this theme. There are so many different things we can do and lots of supplies and ideas out there. We have just over a month to plan everything, but I love having time to figure out what we want to do, in a God honoring way. We will be basing it off of this scripture:

Genesis 1:24-25 "And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good."

I put emphasis on the word everything, because we want it to be known that we believe God created dinosaurs the same day that he made the other beasts of the earth. We have a GREAT kids book about dinosaurs to help them (and us adults) to understand the Biblical view of dinosaurs, which as far as we are concerned is the ONLY way to view them. It is called Dinosaurs for kids by Ken Ham. A few months back David went through this stage where he LOVED dinosaurs. Jim and I really wanted to get him a good book that would teach him the truth about dinosaurs and also not be too "babyish" on the pictures. We found this one and it is great! Later we found out that there is also a DVD out that explains the Biblical view as well, we have yet to watch it, but definitely will have to now to prepare for the party! (Sorry Kelli, we must have packed it with all our other DVDs, but we will get it back to you guys!) A great website is http://www.answersingenesis.org/ it also has a link to the Creation Museum, which we would LOVE to visit hopefully in the not too distant future. My friend Keri & her family stopped by on their way to Washington, and it definitely makes me even more excited to go!

Anyway, I am excited, as usual, about planning his party!

Speaking of Preschooler...

Our church is working on getting an update pictorial directory of its members so we had our family picture taken last week for it. Afterwards Mr Donnie, the photographer asked if David would like his picture taken by himself and he said "yes." David was totally hamming it up, and when Mr. Donnie was finished he showed me the pictures and whoa did I get a quick dose of reality! My little boy looks so grown up in these pictures! I think we officially have a preschooler on our hands...
This one will have to be his "official" school picture for the year

That Sunday before Micah & David were not too excited about staying in their children's class so Mrs. Kristie let them hang out with her in the fellowship hall while she prepared for lunch after service. Mr. Donnie took that opportunity to take some great pictures of these too sweet boys. What characters!
Buddies
Of course it just wouldn't be pictures of boys if there weren't silly faces

I don't even know what to comment on this one, nice D, nice!
This is the family picture of us that will go in the directory.
(Sorry you can't see my belly)
Another sweet picture of our big boy
and the ever present tilted head shot

Our Preschooler

David will be turning 4 in November and we've decided to homeschool him for this first year at least, but with all that has been going on in our home, we have yet to "officially" start school. All of us are excited about when that will be, hopefully before the year 2010 is over...so this morning we were making David's friend a card for his birthday party and I thought I'd try to get him to follow me letter by letter to write his own name, "so his friend Mickey would know who the card was from." Below is a picture of David's first time writing his own name. I'm so proud!
Way to go big boy!

We Love Awana!

I can hardly believe that this will be David's 2nd year in Awana club. Our whole family loves it and David has learned so many Bible verses and he enjoys everything about being a Cubbie, especially earning patches & snack time :)
1st Wednesday back to Pleasant Acres Awana Club. Our big boy Cubbie.
This year Mommy gets the privilege of being an assistant leader for David's Cubbie group, I am super excited for all that the year holds for us both.

Happy 300th Birthday New Bern!

September 17th was the 300th birthday of our sweet little town. This whole past year was filled with fun events to celebrate with, but this weekend was the final celebration, or birthday party, if you will. Friday evening we packed a picnic dinner and met up again with the Paynes & the Goodfellows down on the lawn of Tryon Palace to hear the North Carolina Symphony play and then finish with a great show (even though our personal views were blocked by the trees) of fireworks! It was a perfect evening with a cool breeze off of the water and amazing friends to spend time with. David enjoyed pretending he was playing the instruments allow with them, particularly the piano & the trumpet. (I'm trying to upload a really great video, I hope it works).
Everyone enjoying their picnic dinners while waiting for the symphony to begin.
 David playing his trumpet
Kylie showed David how he could use his bat as a flute, what great fun!
Snuggle time with Daddy
As it got darker, we couldn't help but put our feet up on our chairs and relax, it was such a wonderful evening and a great way to start our weekend.

The next morning at 10 was the Celebration parade. The Goodfellows saved us all a great spot on the street and boy oh boy was David excited for the parade. There were all kinds of neat things to see. They even had some special guest from Bern, Switzerland come to entertain us.
 Great friends, great times!
NC Governor herself, Mrs Bev Purdue
The New Bern bear mascot. For those of you who may not know, New Bern was named after it's sister city of Bern, Switzerland and "bern" in Swiss means bear.
Our favorite band: the USMC Band
 David LOVES tractors too
 These horses were beautiful!
Gotta love the old fashioned fire trucks!
I can't remember exactly what these were called, but they made such a beautiful sound when these three people played. They were kind enough to give our section of the street an encore performance. I got that on video too, but not sure why I can't upload them. They were so neat!
The Swiss street band came to play too, they must think we are pretty special!
We LOVE milk! They had a great tent set up with free push pops, ice creams sandwiches, and chocolate milk. You could also get a vanilla milkshake to make a nice milk mustache for your very own "Got Milk?" advertisement. David was not to excited about getting it on his face nor taking a picture, so we just watched everyone else and enjoyed our treats.
 Some "early" settlers
One of the groups favorites: Dunkin Donuts Coffee. Jackie HAD to hug him :)

and don't forget the Donut, he passed out free donut coupons, but as you can see David wasn't too sure about getting close to him. Do you think Raqi looks excited?? :)

After the parade we all headed to lunch, then David, Jim and I walked down to Union Point Park to the street party. They had a handful of fun little games for the kids to play and David wanted to do the all. Our only complaint, Jim & I that is, was that the prizes for most of the games were fireballs! Now who in their right mind had that brilliant idea for children? They are way too hot and way too hard for kids, but oh well, Jim enjoyed some and David didn't care, he just wanted to play.
David made an African mask and was so proud to show it off
 First game
I thought surely a game called "Sweet Spot" would have something other than fireballs-nope.
All kinds of different tossing games

Taking a break in a little kayak fit for a 3 1/2 year old.
Thankfully no one minded that David wanted to perform on this drum after posing for a great picture
Our amazing soccer player! This prize was better-a bouncey ball
And the football throw, great arm buddy! Prize? A dinosaur silly band
Our FAVORITE sight of the day. The "pirate ship." We had to wait in line, the the hot sun, for quite some time, but it was worth it for us. David loved it and was super patient waiting his turn.
While we waited in line we watch the drawbridge go up, it looked pretty cool
Yay, our turn on the ship!
 Argggh, hold on tight matey!
 Ring that bell!
 Shootin' the gun
Getting ready to check out the Captains quarters

 Good Advice
What is a day on a pirate ship without your own pirate's sword?
While we were walking back to our car David stopped to pose with a fellow pirate outside an antique shop. What a fun weekend, now back to unpacking our house!!!
